Many women living with ovarian cancer wonder if baby powder also known as talcum powder caused there cancer. Just recently 22 women filed a multiple plaintiff lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson in judicial circuit court in St. Louis, Missouri . They won and were awarded $4.7 billion dollars.

Some of the best evidence that proves usage of baby powder causes ovarian cancer comes from two case control studies published in 2016. The African American Cancer Epidemiology Study (AACES) and the New England Ovarian Cancer Research Study which was done by the Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
The AACES study compared 584 women who had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 750 women without ovarian cancer. In this study, talcum powder (baby powder) use was more common in the women with ovarian cancer. The study found that the women who had used baby powder on their genitals and elsewhere on there bodies had a 30% increased risk of developing epithelial ovarian cancer. Many other studies done throughout the US show an increased risk of getting ovarian cancer due to asbestos being present in the baby powder. As most people know asbestos exposure causes lung cancer (mesothelioma), this has been proven. Johnson and Johnson continues to deny that asbestos is present in there baby powder, but during the testimony in St. Louis judicial court study after study proved that asbestos is present in the baby powder.
